Spay To Save; saves not only the lives of pets by preventing unwanted litters, but saves the taxpayers money by lowering the number of unwanted pets arriving at the City Shelter.

The Tulsa City Shelter has a budget of over $1.5 million a year. This money is spent to take over 20,000 calls per year from citizens with problems or complaints about animals; capture, house and adopt a few, but destroy a lot of these animals. Rabies observation of biting animals is another taxpayer expense. In short, $1.5 million in taxpayer money is spent EACH year in our community to deal with the SYMPTOMS of our pet overpopulation problem; NOT on working to prevent the problem of overpopulation.

The Tulsa Animal Shelter takes in 13,000-15,000 unwanted pets EACH year; there is no way to adopt out all of these pets. Destroying the remainder; 10,000-12,000, each year has also proven ineffective in lowering the number of unwanteds that come in each year. The solution is SPAY/NEUTER.

The PAWS Spay To Save program is working to lower the number of unwanted pets that arrive at the shelter each year so that animal control does not have to deal with them at all. How does this save the taxpayer's money? Take a look at what happened in New Hampshire: Cost of the spay/neuter assistance program for 5 years was $840,000. During that time, 22,000 fewer companion animals entered their shelters. That equals a $1.5 million savings on impoundment costs alone - not to mention the savings to municipalities from reduced animal control expenses!!

The PAWS Spay To Save program creates a win/win situation for the community and the pets in our community! Save Lives & Save Money!
