WHO WE ARE
PAWS (Pet Assistance & Welfare Society, Inc.) is a 501(c)3 organization that formed in mid-2000.
PAWS was put together by a small group of volunteers that had been
volunteering at the Tulsa Animal Shelter. These volunteers saw a need to be able to raise funds to help some of the animals at the shelter and to put in place a low cost and free spay/neuter clinic to help alleviate Tulsa's
serious pet overpopulation problem. They weren't able to do this in their
current Volunteers In Police Service (VIPS) capacity, so they formed PAWS.
The shelter volunteer program (VIPS) is still going strong, and most PAWS
volunteers are also VIPS shelter volunteers. The Tulsa Animal Shelter has
been very cooperative and supportive with the PAWS and VIPS volunteers in working to help the community.
The PAWS Spay To Save program operates at the Tulsa Animal Shelter on
Saturdays performing low cost and free spay/neuters for those in our
community that cannot afford to take their pets to a veterinarian. The Spay To Save program has been able to complete over 4,000 surgeries to date (7/1/04).
PAWS also rescues/rehabilitates/rehomes injured, homeless animals. There aren't many chances for the animals that come to the shelter injured, so PAWS felt it necessary to specialize the adoption program by helping this group of animals.
